Grapheme & Kupu Posters for Sound Walls
As you will want to create the spelling pattern posters / kupu posters in partnership with your learners each year, I have provided printable posters for you to use.
These are blank, colour-matched posters to be placed underneath each Sound Card. I recommend printing them on card rather than paper if possible, so they will last through the school year.
For each phoneme, you will begin by teaching only the basic code grapheme as outlined in your school’s scope and sequence of choice. You may only want to introduce the spelling option posters once alternative spelling choices are introduced, as shown to the left.
Use a word which can be easily decoded by your learners: consider choosing ‘cat’ instead of ‘caterpillar’. Record the target phoneme / grapheme in a highlight colour to make it stand out.
You certainly don’t have to use the posters – just make simple word strips and display underneath each card.
